The Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals in Asia-Pacific (ASA) was founded in 1974 in Manila by the Association of Secretaries & Administrative Professionals, Inc (PAS). The formation of ASA has provided an opportunity for administrative professionals and secretaries in and around Asia to associate with each other for the improvement of individual performance. It has also created a means for secretarial associations to communicate with each other for the betterment of the individual association and the profession. An ASA Congress is held biennially and it is hosted by one of the sixteen member associations on a rotation basis according to seniority of their membership in ASA. To-date, eighteen congresses have been conducted, bringing together administrative professionals and secretaries of different backgrounds, cultures and work environments from all over Asia-Pacific and the USA. The idea of a larger Asian Association was promoted and todate the following secretarial associations are members of ASA:

  • Distinguished Secretaries Society of Pakistan
  • Japan Secretaries & Administrative Professionals Association
  • Sri Lanka Association of  Administrative and Professional Secretaries
  • Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals (Brunei)
  • West New Britain Association of Secretaries (Papua New Guinea)
  • Professional Secretaries Welfare Association (Bangladesh)

The main objectives of ASA are:

  • to gain recognition for the secretaries and administrative professionals, as a professional, and
  • to promote friendship, understanding, unity and the exchange of ideas among the secretaries and administrative professionals in Asia.

So far eighteen Congresses have been held and these Congresses have brought together secretaries & administrative professionals of different backgrounds, culture and work environment from all over Asia, the Pacific and the USA to discuss and work continuously on the upgrading of the administrative professional.
